Terence Crawford stuns Canelo, becomes first three-division undisputed champion

Las Vegas, Sep 14: Making boxing history, Terence Crawford dethroned Mexican superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez to claim the undisputed super middleweight world title, becoming the first fighter ever to hold undisputed crowns in three weight divisions.

In a tightly fought battle before a roaring 70,482 fans at Allegiant Stadium, the 37-year-old American outboxed Alvarez with speed and precision, winning by unanimous decision: 116-112 (Steve Weisfeld) and 115-113 (Tim Cheatham, Max DeLuca).

Crawford, now 42-0 with 31 KOs, leapt two weight classes from welterweight and matched Canelo’s 167.5-pound frame, yet showed no loss of agility. He steadily wore the champion down, unleashing sharp jabs and late-round combinations to silence critics who doubted his résumé.

“Canelo is a great champion. I’ve got nothing but respect for him,” Crawford said after the bout.

Four-division world champion Alvarez, 35, fell to 63-3-2, unable to solve Crawford’s movement and speed despite his decade-long reign as boxing’s biggest draw.
