Ex-TOK leaders join BJP, deal major blow to Omie Kalani in Ulhasnagar

Ulhasnagar, Sep 7: Several former corporators and supporters of Ulhasnagar’s influential local party, Team Omie Kalani (TOK), have joined the BJP, signaling a shift in the city’s political landscape ahead of the municipal elections.

Prominent entrants include former corporator Prabhunath Gupta and his son Babu Gupta, former corporator’s son Sanjay Singh, Sujit Chakraborty’s wife Chhaya Chakraborty, and former corporator Mangal Waghe, along with TOK supporters Hema Pinjani, Suchitra Singh, and Suraj Bharwani. The induction took place in the presence of BJP State President Ravindra Chavan and State Spokesperson Shweta Shalini.

Chavan praised the leaders’ decision, stating it reflected their faith in the BJP inspired by the work of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Ulhasnagar District President Rajesh Vadhrya, MLA Kumar Ailani, and several other senior BJP leaders were also present.

Commenting on the development, Vadhrya said, “With so many opposition leaders joining BJP, we are confident that the next Mayor of Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation will be from our party.”

The move is considered a significant setback for TOK leader Omie Kalani, especially with the departure of Prabhunath Gupta and his son, whose family has held their corporator’s ward for six consecutive terms.
