Jalna, Aug 30: Tragedy struck early Friday morning when five members of a family died after their car fell into an 80-ft-deep well on Tembhurni–Rajur road in Jafrabad taluka, Jalna district.

According to police, the accident occurred around 5am when the driver lost control while attempting to avoid two morning walkers. The car hit the pedestrians, then crashed into the well’s guard wall before plunging into water-filled depths. Rescue operations involving the fire brigade, police, district administration, and local residents took nearly seven hours to recover the vehicle and the bodies.

The deceased were identified as Dnyaneshwar Laxman Bhambire (50), Padmabai Laxman Bhambire (55), and Ajinath Tulshiram Bhambire (40) from Koparda village in Bhokardan taluka, and Nirmala Sopaan Dakle (25) and Dnyaneshwar Bhausaheb Dakle (40) from Georai Gungi in Phulambri taluka. Nirmala, a paralytic patient, was en route to Buldhana for treatment.

Police said Nirmala’s mother Padmabai had come to accompany her for treatment, while her husband had gone to Mumbai for the Maratha quota agitation. With no one else available to drive, Nirmala’s brother-in-law Dnyaneshwar Dakle took charge. Joining them along the route were Bhambire and his cousin Ajinath.

The car reportedly struck the two walkers at Gadegavhan Paati. One, 55-year-old Bhagwan Saluba Bankar, was critically injured and admitted to a Jalna hospital, while the other sustained minor injuries. All five occupants of the car were trapped and died of suffocation under water.
