Man fends off stray dog attack in Pimpri Chinchwad

Pimpri Chinchwad, Aug 23: A man narrowly escaped an attack by a pack of seven stray dogs early Saturday morning in Pimpri Chinchwad. The incident, captured on CCTV around 5 am, shows the man walking through a dark alley when the dogs charged at him.

In the nearly three-minute video, the man first takes cover behind a bike, pushing it at the animals when they continued to approach. Later, he defended himself with a wooden board until nearby residents arrived to shoo the dogs away. Despite the scuffle, no dogs were harmed, though the man sustained injuries.

Locals have demanded that the Municipal Corporation take stronger action to control the stray dog population in the area. The incident comes amid nationwide debates on rising stray dog attacks and rabies-related deaths.

Recently, the Supreme Court modified its earlier directive, stating that stray dogs in residential areas should be sterilised and immunised before being released back. The ruling excludes dogs infected with rabies or displaying aggressive behaviour. Authorities have been instructed to follow Animal Birth Control (ABC) guidelines and establish dedicated feeding spaces for strays, while public feeding outside these zones will attract strict action.

The court also allowed adoption applications through municipal authorities, warning that adopted dogs must not be abandoned back onto streets.
