Bengaluru, Aug 16: Food delivery giant Swiggy has once again raised its platform fee for orders, increasing it by Rs 2 from Rs 12 to Rs 14, citing higher customer transactions during the festive season.
The platform has seen a consistent surge in fees over the past two years, rising from Rs 2 in April 2023 to Rs 6 in July 2024, Rs 10 in October 2024, and now Rs 14 — a staggering 600% increase in just over two years. With over 2 million daily orders, the hike generates significant additional revenue for the company.
Swiggy posted a net loss of Rs 1,197 cr in Q1 FY26, nearly double the Rs 611 crore loss in the same period last year. The widening losses were largely attributed to its Quick Commerce division, Instamart.
The fee hike comes amid growing criticism of the duopoly formed by Swiggy and Zomato, which impose commission rates of up to 35%, forcing restaurants to inflate menu prices and making online orders more than 50% costlier than dining in. Both platforms have faced scrutiny for failing to improve worker conditions despite repeated fee increases.
