Thane, Aug 14: A major fire broke out in the early hours of Thursday at a café located on the ground floor of a six-storey residential building in Maharashtra’s Thane city, prompting the evacuation of 35 residents.
According to Yasin Tadvi, chief of Thane Municipal Corporation’s Disaster Management Cell, the incident occurred around 4:58 am at Parsik Café, situated in the Chandrabhaga Park complex at Parsik Nagar, Kharegaon, Kalwa (West).
Fire officials said that most residents were asleep when the blaze erupted. Acting swiftly, fire brigade teams, along with disaster management personnel, safely evacuated all occupants of B Wing of the building as a precautionary measure.
The café, spread over 1,000 sq ft, was completely gutted, with furniture, kitchen equipment, cupboards, and refrigerators reduced to charred remains.
Three fire tenders were deployed to douse the flames, and the blaze was brought under control by 6:25 am. No casualties were reported in the incident.
Authorities have launched a probe to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.
