East Bengal eyes third straight win, Mohun Bagan storms into Durand Cup quarters

Kolkata, Aug 10: Indian Super League side East Bengal FC aims to continue their winning streak in the Durand Cup when they take on Indian Air Force Football Team in their final group-stage match at Kishore Bharati Krirangan on Sunday. The Red & Gold Brigade top Group A with six points from two games, ahead of Namdhari FC, who have the same points from three matches. East Bengal opened their campaign with a commanding 5-0 win over South United FC and followed it up with a hard-fought victory against Namdhari FC.

Indian Air Force FT, with just one point from two games, are out of contention for the knockout stage. East Bengal looks to maintain their momentum and secure a perfect group record.

Meanwhile, arch-rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant cruised to a convincing 5-1 win over Diamond Harbour FC at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, sealing their place in the Durand Cup quarter-finals. Despite missing key players due to injuries, Mohun Bagan dominated the match with goals from Anirudh Thapa, Jamie Maclaren, Liston Colaco, Sahal Abdul Samad, and Jason Cummings. A second-half penalty and a red card to Diamond Harbour FC's Naresh paved the way for a dominant performance by the Mariners.

With this victory, Mohun Bagan has confirmed their spot in the knockout phase, keeping their title hopes alive. East Bengal will look to join them with a win in their next game.
