BJP leaders slam Kharge over remarks against PM Modi in Patna

New Delhi, Oct 25: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late father at an event in Patna on Sunday drew a sharp response from the BJP, with senior party leaders and Union Ministers accusing him of lowering political discourse.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah accused the Congress of crossing limits of political decorum by using abusive language against the Prime Minister and his family, saying the party was “losing all limits of indecency every day”.

“This is not the first time that the Congress party has used abusive language against Modi ji or his family. At times, they have hurled insults at his revered mother, at times called him 'merchant of death,' and at times mocked his poverty by calling him chaiwala,” Shah said.

Taking a swipe at the Congress over its electoral defeats over the past decade, Shah attributed the remarks to what he described as desperation and frustration within the party.

He further claimed that the Congress was steadily losing support even among its own workers and asserted that the party would receive a strong response from the public.

The controversy erupted during the 139th birth anniversary celebrations of Bihar's first Chief Minister, Shri Krishna Singh, in Patna. During the event, a person in the audience reportedly shouted, “Modi kahin nahin jayega” (Modi will not go anywhere), following which Kharge made the remarks that triggered the political row.

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda also condemned the comments directed at the Prime Minister and his late father, saying such conduct deserved the strongest possible condemnation.

“Frustrated by repeated electoral defeats, the Congress party is venting its political spite against Prime Minister Modi ji and his family through baseless and irresponsible comments,” Nadda said.

He added that the Opposition's alleged frustration over Modi's popularity in India and abroad, as well as the public's trust in him, was reflected in its language and conduct.

“Such indecent rhetoric directed at the Prime Minister, elected by the mandate of 140 crore fellow citizens, and his family not only reveals a profound lack of political decorum but also constitutes an insult to the people of the country,” he said.

Nadda accused the Congress of pursuing a “politics of hatred and humiliation” and said people would respond to such conduct through democratic means.

BJP president Nitin Nabin also criticised Kharge's remarks, describing the language as “indecent and unparliamentary” and alleging that it reflected the Congress party's ideological bankruptcy.

“This is not Kharge ji's personal statement, but a revelation of the entire Congress party's lack of decorum in its thinking. When the opposition has no solid issues left to debate on the country's development, policies, and public welfare schemes, they resort to this kind of desperation and personal attacks,” Nabin said.

The BJP chief added that people were closely watching the decline in political discourse and would respond to it through democratic means.
