Liverpool, Aug 7: Rising Liverpool star Curtis Jones has credited former Reds manager Jurgen Klopp for playing a pivotal role in his footballing journey, describing him as more than just a coach — “like a dad.”
In an exclusive interview with JioHotstar, the 24-year-old midfielder reflected on his incredible journey from the club’s academy ranks to the senior team, a path he began as a nine-year-old boy from Liverpool.
Having already lifted two Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy, and several other honours since his first-team debut in 2018, Jones expressed gratitude for the belief and guidance Klopp showed throughout his development.
“He was more than a manager — he was like a father figure. The way he treated me, helped me grow, gave me confidence… it’s something I’ll never forget,” said Jones, emotionally recalling his bond with the German tactician who bid farewell to the club earlier this year.
Jones further shared insights about the demanding but rewarding environment at Liverpool, crediting Klopp for instilling the mindset and discipline needed to thrive at the highest level.
The midfielder’s heartfelt tribute has struck a chord with fans, many of whom remember Klopp’s nurturing approach to Liverpool’s young talents during his illustrious reign at Anfield.
