Ahmedabad, Aug 5: In a historic finale at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ended their long wait for IPL glory by clinching their maiden title, edging out Punjab Kings (PBKS) by a narrow six-run margin.
Despite the heartbreak, it was a season to remember for PBKS, who made it to the playoffs for the first time in 11 years under the inspiring leadership of Shreyas Iyer. The team topped the league stage with nine wins from 14 matches, emerging as one of the strongest contenders this season.
PBKS faced major injury setbacks, most notably the absence of star players Glenn Maxwell and Lockie Ferguson. Ferguson suffered a left leg injury during a clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad and was forced out of the remainder of the tournament. The New Zealand pacer had also missed the 2025 Champions Trophy due to a prior hamstring injury sustained during the ILT20 in the UAE.
Speaking to NDTV during a media interaction, Ferguson reflected on his injury woes and shared his recovery journey ahead of The Hundred. “Injury never affected my mindset. It's part of the job as a fast bowler. When you’re trying to bowl fast and win matches, injuries are bound to happen,” he said.
Emphasising the importance of preparation, Ferguson added, “You have to manage injuries, learn from your mistakes, and focus on rehab. Hopefully, my summer with Trent Rockets goes well, and I aim to give my best.”
Ferguson will turn out for the Trent Rockets in the upcoming edition of The Hundred, led by England’s David Willey. The Kiwi speedster expressed excitement about reuniting with familiar faces. “It will be really nice to play with Stoin (Marcus Stoinis) again. He’s a fantastic player both on and off the field. I’m also glad David’s taking over captaincy. I played with him in Yorkshire and really enjoyed it.”
The 2025 season of The Hundred begins on Tuesday, with London Spirit facing Oval Invincibles in the opener. Trent Rockets will kick off their campaign against Birmingham Phoenix on Friday.
