Warner Park, Jul 29: Australia wrapped up a dominating T20I series against West Indies with a clinical seven-wicket win in the fifth and final match held on Tuesday. With this victory, the Mitchell Marsh-led side completed a resounding 5-0 clean sweep over the Caribbean outfit.
The hero of the final encounter was pacer Ben Dwarshuis, whose fiery spell of 3/41 in four overs earned him the Player of the Match award. His timely breakthroughs restricted the West Indies to a total of 170 in 19.4 overs after the Aussies opted to bowl first.
Shai Hope’s men put up a decent fight with Shimron Hetmyer (52 off 31 balls) and Sherfane Rutherford (35 off 17) shining briefly. Jason Holder chipped in with 20 runs, but Australia’s bowling attack, led by Dwarshuis and supported by Nathan Ellis (2/32), kept the hosts in check. Other contributors included Hardie, Abbott, Maxwell, and Zampa with a wicket apiece.
In reply, Australia chased down the target with ease, reaching 171 for 7 in just 17 overs. Explosive knocks from Mitchell Owen (37 off 17), Cameron Green (32 off 18), Tim David (30 off 12), and an unbeaten 28 from Aaron Hardie powered the visitors to victory with 18 balls to spare.
Cameron Green was named Player of the Series for his all-round contributions throughout the series.
Despite some resistance from the West Indies bowlers, including Akeal Hosein (3/17) and the pace duo of Alzarri Joseph and Jason Holder, Australia’s depth and firepower proved too strong in every outing of the five-match contest.
The series sweep marks a strong build-up for Australia ahead of upcoming international assignments, while the West Indies will look to reassess and regroup following the heavy defeat.
