Jadeja & Sundar heroics save India with thrilling draw at Old Trafford

Manchester, Jul 27: Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar struck unbeaten centuries in a spirited rearguard action that helped India snatch a dramatic draw against England in the fourth Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Test at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Starting the second innings at 0/2, trailing by 311 runs, India seemed destined for defeat. But a gritty fightback led by Shubman Gill (103), KL Rahul (90), and stunning centuries from Jadeja (107)* and Sundar (100)* turned the tables and denied England victory on the final day.

With the series on the line and England leading 2-1, India’s middle and lower order staged a memorable resistance. Jadeja and Sundar added a 200-run unbroken stand, frustrating the hosts deep into the evening session. Despite England offering a handshake to settle for a draw earlier, India declined — determined to let Jadeja and Sundar reach their milestones.

Jadeja punished Liam Dawson and Joe Root with powerful strokes, while Sundar calmly drove and pulled his way into the 90s. Jadeja brought up his century with a commanding six off Harry Brook, while Sundar followed soon after with a composed flick for two.

Once both reached their hundreds, India accepted the draw, ending at 425/4 in 143 overs. The result leaves England still ahead 2-1 going into the final Test at The Oval.

Brief Scores:

• England: 669 all out in 157.1 overs (Joe Root 150, Jadeja 4-143)
• India: 358 & 425/4 in 143 overs (Jadeja 107*, Gill 103, Sundar 100*, Woakes 2-67)

Match Result: Draw

Series: England lead 2-1 with one Test remaining
