Barcelona nears Marcus Rashford loan deal with option to buy

Barcelona, Jul 19: FC Barcelona are reportedly on the verge of securing Marcus Rashford on loan from Manchester United for the 2025-26 season, with an option to buy included in the deal, according to The Athletic. The England forward is said to be keen on the move, which would mark a fresh start after a turbulent season in the Premier League.

Barcelona, in search of a left-sided attacker, initially pursued Spain international Nico Williams, but the player ultimately extended his contract with Athletic Club until 2035—prompting the Catalans to shift focus to Rashford.

The 26-year-old endured a rollercoaster 2024/25 campaign. He made 15 league appearances for United, scoring three times, including in Ruben Amorim’s debut as head coach. However, a fallout with Amorim saw him dropped ahead of the Manchester derby in December. Rashford was later loaned to Aston Villa, where he added four more goals in 17 appearances before a hamstring injury curtailed his season in April.

United, meanwhile, are facing growing unrest within the squad and pressure in the transfer market. Several high-profile players, including Antony, Jadon Sancho, Rashford, and Alejandro Garnacho, have reportedly expressed a desire to leave Old Trafford.

Rashford’s likely exit may help United free up space and wages, particularly after the club reached an agreement to sign Bryan Mbuemo from Brentford. The Cameroonian forward is expected to complete a £71 million transfer following his medical this weekend.

If completed, Rashford’s move could offer a much-needed reset for both club and player—giving Barcelona added firepower on the left and offering the England international a chance to revive his form away from the pressures of Manchester.
