Udupi, July 17: A manhole on the Kalsanka–Ambagilu Road near Silas School has been overflowing for the past several days, causing severe inconvenience and posing a serious risk to commuters, particularly two-wheeler riders.

Drainage water from the manhole has been continuously flowing onto the road, creating a slippery and unhygienic stretch. The situation has worsened due to heavy vehicular movement, resulting in the complete deterioration of the road surface and the formation of deep potholes.

In an attempt to prevent accidents, a barricade has been placed over the manhole, restricting vehicles from passing directly over it. However, this has further narrowed the road, causing traffic congestion during peak hours. Drainage water collected in the potholes often splashes onto pedestrians, drenching those walking along the footpath.

This issue has persisted for several days, rendering the road nearly unmotorable. There is a high chance of two-wheelers skidding, and it is extremely dangerous to ride, particularly during the night when visibility is low.

In the mornings, when hundreds of school students pass through, the overflowing drain poses serious health hazards. Riders are forced dangerously close to the barricade, increasing the risk of accidents.

The road is already in a severely damaged state due to the constant water flow. Potholes and eroded tar are making travel extremely difficult. At night, the area becomes especially hazardous, as riders often fail to notice the overflow or barricade in time.

Local residents are urging the municipal authorities and elected representatives to take immediate action by clearing the blocked drainage line and re-laying the damaged stretch, in order to safeguard students and daily commuters.
