Goa begins digital overhaul of land records to curb fraud

Margao, Jul 16: Goa Archives and Archaeology Minister Subhash Phal Dessai announced that the state government has initiated the digitalisation of land records as part of a long-term strategy to prevent land fraud and tampering.

Stating that the project will take approximately three to four years to complete, Phal Dessai said around 10% of the digitalisation work has already been completed. The initiative, he said, is aimed at preserving land ownership integrity and ensuring that records cannot be altered or destroyed.

“In recent years, we’ve seen several land scams involving manipulation of physical records—pages removed, names changed,” the minister said. “By digitising the system and placing records under CCTV surveillance, we are putting an end to such malpractice.”

He added that once the digitalisation is complete, people will be able to access their land records easily and securely without physically handling any documents, making the process more transparent and tamper-proof.

Phal Dessai expressed confidence that the new system will safeguard the land rights of Goans and prevent future fraud.
