KSRTC updates luggage rules: New guidelines for passengers on what can be carried onboard

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru

Bengaluru, July 14: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has announced major changes to its luggage policy, bringing new rules into effect for passengers travelling on its buses across the state.

With KSRTC buses being a primary mode of transport for lakhs of commuters daily, the revised rules aim to provide better convenience for passengers while also boosting the corporation’s revenue.

What can passengers now carry on KSRTC buses?

Under the new policy, passengers are now allowed to carry not only personal luggage but also large household items such as refrigerators, washing machines, iron and aluminium pipes, tyres, and even domesticated animals and birds, subject to certain conditions.

New luggage allowance and charges

According to the updated rules, each adult passenger is entitled to carry up to 30 kg of personal luggage free of cost, while children can carry up to 15 kg. Personal luggage includes clothing, books, food for the journey, and other essential items.

However, any luggage exceeding the free allowance, or commercial goods and heavy items like refrigerators, washing machines, tyres, iron pipes, aluminium pipes, and empty containers, will be subject to additional charges.

Animals and birds allowed on select services, with conditions

Passengers are also allowed to carry pets such as rabbits, puppies, cats, and birds on City, Suburban, Ordinary, and Mofussil bus services. These will be charged at the rate of a child’s ticket fare. However, transporting animals is strictly prohibited on premium services like Karnataka Vaibhav, Rajahamsa, Non-AC Sleeper, and all air-conditioned buses.

Passengers are advised to check with KSRTC staff or visit the official KSRTC website for detailed information before travelling with large or special items.
