Udupi, Jul 10: Notorious Garuda gang member Kabir alias Kabir Hussain (46) has been arrested by Udupi police.

The deputy commissioner and district magistrate of Udupi district issued a preventive detention order against Kabir under the Karnataka Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Drug Offenders, Gamblers, Goondas, etc. Act (commonly known as the Goonda Act). Kabir is a resident of Kampa Kauroor village in Karkala.

Following the order, the accused was taken into custody and shifted to the Central Prison in Mysuru.

Kabir has been involved in criminal activities since 2005 and is implicated in as many as 17 cases, including murder, attempted murder, robbery, extortion, theft, cattle theft, and assault on government officials. Among these, he has been convicted in two cases, acquitted in eight, reached a compromise in three, while two cases are still under judicial trial and the remaining two are under police investigation.

The accused has committed crimes within the jurisdictions of several police stations across Udupi district, including Karkala Town, Hiriyadka, Padubidri, Manipal, Shirva, and Kaup.

In addition to Udupi, Kabir is also involved in criminal cases registered in Sringeri and Koppa in Chikkamagaluru district, as well as in Venoor and Surathkal under Mangaluru city limits in Dakshina Kannada district.

He is also identified as an active member of the notorious Garuda Gang.
