Mumbai, Jul 8: Veteran playback singer Udit Narayan has lent his voice to the title track of the upcoming film Maine Pyar Kiya Phir Se, calling it a rare gem in today’s Bollywood music scene.
Speaking about the project, Narayan said the song is a romantic, melancholic piece filled with melody — a quality he believes is fading from modern film music. “The title is beautiful, and so is the music. Melody never dies. It’s eternal,” he told reporters.
The soundtrack has been composed by Dilip Sen and Sameer Sen, known for their hits in the 1990s. The lyrics, penned by producer Rony, capture the emotional depth of the film. The movie also stars Dharmendra and Arbaaz Khan, adding to the anticipation around its release.
Narayan also weighed in on the ongoing Hindi-Marathi language controversy in Maharashtra. Emphasising the importance of regional languages, he said, “Marathi is important if you're working in Maharashtra. But all languages in India deserve respect.”
The row erupted after the state government initially mandated Hindi as a compulsory third language in schools. Widespread protests followed, prompting a policy reversal — Hindi is now optional, while Marathi and English remain mandatory.
The controversy also saw rare political unity, with Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray coming together to oppose the imposition of Hindi in schools. Tensions have further escalated due to MNS workers using force against those refusing to speak Marathi.
Through it all, Narayan maintains that artists should focus on their role: “My job is to entertain people — language should unite us, not divide.”
