Vadodara, Jul 3: Alembic Pharmaceuticals Ltd has announced that its US subsidiary, Alembic Pharmaceuticals Inc, has acquired UK-based Utility Therapeutics Ltd in a deal valued at over Rs 100 cr (USD 12 million), marking a strategic entry into the American branded pharmaceuticals market.

The acquisition will allow Alembic to commercialise Utility’s FDA-approved drug Pivya (pivmecillinam), used to treat uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women. The drug was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration in April 2024 and is expected to hit the American market in the fourth quarter of 2025.

“This acquisition gives us a strategic entry into the specialty and branded prescription products and will strengthen our footprint in the US pharmaceutical space,” said Pranav Amin, Managing Director of Alembic Pharmaceuticals.

Tom Hadley, President and CEO of Utility Therapeutics, said Alembic understands the clinical and commercial value of Pivya and will ensure that female patients in the US gain access to this proven treatment.

With this move, Alembic aims to expand beyond generics and strengthen its capabilities in the large and competitive US branded pharmaceutical sector.
