Junta quarters demolition delayed as one family seeks more time to vacate

Daijiworld Media Network – Mapusa

Mapusa, Jul 3: The demolition of the Junta Quarters building in the old Mapusa market has been temporarily delayed after one of the three families residing there requested a week’s time to vacate the premises.

Earlier, on June 16, the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) issued a 24-hour eviction notice to the residents, following a directive from the North Goa district collector citing the dangerous condition of the structure and the need to vacate it for public safety.

While two families complied and vacated their flats, the third family approached the MMC seeking additional time, which the council agreed to grant.

As a result, the planned sealing and demolition of the dilapidated building has been put on hold until the eviction is complete.
