Los Angeles, Jul 1: Hollywood star Glen Powell is all set to return to the big screen in a thrilling new avatar with Edgar Wright’s modern-day remake of The Running Man. Known for his recent hits like Hit Man, Anyone but You, and Twisters, the 36-year-old actor now steps into a high-stakes dystopian world, reimagined from Stephen King’s 1982 novel.
The film is a fresh take on the 1987 cult classic that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger. In this updated version, Powell plays Ben Richards, a working-class man forced to enter a brutal television game show in a desperate bid to save his ailing daughter. Contestants, referred to as “Runners,” must survive 30 days while being hunted by lethal killers known as “Hunters.” With every second broadcast to the public, the prize money increases—but so does the danger.
As Ben becomes a fan favorite, he begins to challenge the system that trapped him, sparking chaos within the show's twisted world.
The film boasts a stellar cast alongside Powell. Colman Domingo plays the flamboyant host Bobby Thompson, while Katy O’Brian appears as a fellow contestant. Lee Pace stars as a top-tier Hunter, and Michael Cera portrays Bradley, an insider aiding Ben’s survival. The ensemble also includes William H. Macy, Emilia Jones, Daniel Ezra, and Jayme Lawson.
Directed by Edgar Wright and co-written with Michael Bacall—known for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and 21 Jump Street—The Running Man promises Wright’s signature style, slick action, and sharp storytelling.
The much-anticipated film is set to hit theatres on November 7.
