Mumbai, Jun 23: A major fire broke out early Monday morning, June 23, on the set of the popular television show Anupamaa, starring Rupali Ganguly, at Goregaon's Film City in Mumbai.
According to officials from the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), the fire started around 6:26 am in a tent structure on the set, located near Hathi Gate behind the Marathi Bigg Boss set. It was declared a Level-I emergency, prompting a swift response with four fire engines, four jumbo tankers, an Assistant Divisional Fire Officer (ADFO), and three Station Officers deployed to the site.

Thankfully, no injuries or casualties have been reported.
The cause of the blaze remains unknown, but the incident has sparked outrage among industry workers. The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) urged Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis to initiate a high-level inquiry into the fire.
In a post on X, AICWA stated that several crew members were present during the incident and warned that if filming had been underway, the situation could have turned deadly. “This is yet another tragic reminder of the recurring fire outbreaks in Mumbai film studios due to negligence by producers, production houses, and TV channels,” the post read.
AICWA president Suresh Shyamlal Gupta demanded the suspension of the Film City Managing Director and Mumbai Labour Commissioner, and called for an FIR to be filed against those responsible, including the production house and television channel.
While the Anupamaa set was destroyed, it was reported that several nearby sets narrowly escaped the blaze, raising further concerns about safety standards in the industry.
Anupamaa continues to be one of Indian television’s top-rated shows and draws large daily crews, highlighting the urgent need for stringent fire safety enforcement on high-traffic sets.
