Bengaluru, Jun 18: Infosys founder N R Narayana Murthy has revealed that he now relies on artificial intelligence tool ChatGPT-4 to draft his public speeches a task that once took him over 25 hours. The 78-year-old tech visionary said the AI-powered assistant has dramatically boosted his productivity, reducing writing time to just five hours.
“Earlier, I used to take about 25-30 hours to prepare a lecture because I take these things very seriously. There must be a theme, a sub-theme; they must be interrelated. At the end, there must be a strong message,” Murthy said in an interview with Moneycontrol.

The tech pioneer credited his son, Rohan Murty, for introducing him to ChatGPT. “In a matter of five hours, I could improve the draft. I improved my own productivity by as much as five times,” he noted.
Known for his forward-thinking approach, Murthy described AI as an augmentative tool rather than a threat to jobs. He has long believed in AI's potential to aid software development, cut down errors, and improve turnaround time.
“The smartness is in defining the requirement well. That’s what my son told me — unless you ask the right question, you won’t get the right output,” Murthy explained, adding that future programmers will need to become sharper at framing complex queries to solve more advanced problems.
Drawing a parallel with the introduction of computers in Indian banks during the 1970s, he said AI will follow a similar path — initially feared, but eventually embraced. “Back then, machines were opposed by unions, but later they helped improve productivity and enabled employees to go home by 5 PM to spend time with their families.”
Murthy’s endorsement of AI adds to the growing list of industry leaders encouraging the responsible adoption of generative technologies to enhance efficiency and creativity.
