Bantwal, June 8: A resident of Barimaru village has filed a complaint at the Bantwal Rural Police Station alleging that his own brothers falsely declared him mentally ill and forcibly admitted him to an ashram in a bid to take over his property.
The complainant has been identified as Valerian Lasrado, a resident of Purushakodi. According to his complaint, a case has been registered at the Bantwal Rural Police Station.
What does the complaint say?
Valerian claims he owns 2.78 acres of land under Survey No. 51/5 in Barimaru village and is divorced. His own younger brothers, Benedict Lasrado and Frederick Lasrado, allegedly assured him that they would take good care of him and convinced him to transfer the rights of his property to them through a will. Trusting them, he executed and registered the will in their favour.
He alleges that the accused brothers then forcibly kept the will with themselves and later began harassing him by picking quarrels, verbally abusing him, and falsely branding him as mentally unstable. He claims they admitted him to Emmanuel Trust Ashram in Udupi on September 10, 2023, and withdrew Rs 1.5 lakh from his bank account around the same time.
According to the complaint, Valerian was forcibly confined in a room at the Udupi ashram for eight months, made to drink toilet water, and tortured. He further alleges that with the help of three unknown goons, he was later confined in another ashram near Pumpwell in Mangaluru, where attempts were made to assault and threaten his life.
Bantwal Rural Police have registered a case and are currently investigating the allegations.
