Mumbai, Jun 1: A bomb threat call made to the Grand Hyatt hotel in Santacruz on Friday prompted a swift response from police and bomb disposal squads, only to be confirmed as a hoax.

The hotel staff immediately alerted local police after receiving a call claiming a bomb had been planted on the premises and would soon explode. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) conducted a thorough search but found no explosives or hazardous materials.

A senior police officer revealed the call was made from an international phone number, a frequent occurrence near the airport area. Authorities are currently analyzing the number and have involved the cyber department to trace the caller’s location. “We suspect the caller could be based in India using a VPN, but this is yet to be confirmed,” the officer added.

The Vakola police have registered a case under Section 353 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for statements conducing to public mischief. The investigation is ongoing as police work to identify and apprehend the caller.
