Mumbai, May 25: In a much-anticipated development set to redefine the city’s seafront experience, the 7.5-kilometre-long pedestrian promenade along the Mumbai Coastal Road is all set to open to the public by June 15, civic authorities confirmed.
The sea-facing walkway, stretching from Priyadarshini Park in Breach Candy to the Worli-end of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, promises to offer Mumbaikars a refreshing blend of nature, leisure, and modern amenities.
Spread across 17 hectares, the promenade includes:
• A 20-meter-wide walkway covering 12 hectares
• A 5-hectare central median
• 70% of the area dedicated to green cover
The project features:
• Cycling lanes
• Jogging and yoga tracks
• Open-air gyms
• Children’s play zones
• Senior citizen-friendly spaces
• Butterfly gardens
• Musical fountains
• Miyawaki-style forests
• Open-air theatres and seating areas
The walkway is part of the larger Mumbai Coastal Road Project, aimed at easing traffic congestion and enhancing urban infrastructure along the city’s western coastline.
Citizens and urban planners alike are lauding the initiative, calling it a transformative step toward improving public spaces in Mumbai. Once operational, the promenade is expected to become one of the city’s most popular destinations for walkers, fitness enthusiasts, and tourists.
Officials have assured that final touches, including landscaping, lighting, and safety checks, are currently underway and will be completed before the mid-June launch.
With the opening just weeks away, Mumbaikars can look forward to embracing a new era of waterfront living — where concrete meets coastline, and urban life finds room to breathe.
