Panaji, May 14: In a major step towards digital governance in education, the Goa government is set to centralise Class XI admissions through the SamarthX e-governance portal starting from the academic year 2025-26. The platform will eventually extend from nursery to higher secondary schools, revolutionising academic and administrative operations across the state.
The move follows the success of centralised online admissions for degree programmes through the e-Samarth portal. The implementation of SamarthX, a project under the Union Ministry of Education, is being overseen by the Goa State Higher Education Council (GSHEC). Mahadev Gawas, from the Directorate of Higher Education, has been appointed as the Project Director for this ambitious transition.
Speaking to the media, Gawas said, “SamarthX is a comprehensive digital solution for school education that streamlines key functions like admissions, academic records, and administrative tasks.” A pilot programme for Class XI admissions was successfully run in 31 higher secondary schools in a hybrid model, combining both online and offline processes.
To prepare stakeholders, GSHEC conducted an intensive five-day training workshop from May 5 to 9, targeting school heads, in-charges, and computer teachers from government, aided, and private schools. Nearly 1,600 teachers took part in 10 detailed sessions on platform features and implementation strategies.
With over 1,400 schools already onboarded, the next step includes taluka-level boot camps to ensure hands-on training and practical exposure for teaching staff.
Cecilia Fernandes, Additional District Education Inspector for Bardez, said, “The portal will be a game changer in tracking student data, ensuring seamless access to academic services, and helping education departments make informed decisions.”
Mhalasakant Deshpande, headmaster of Mhalasa Narayani High School, Verna, highlighted the portal’s ability to support inter-state student transfers, noting its student-friendly features like result access, certificate issuance, and digital fee payments.
With Goa becoming one of the early adopters of SamarthX, the initiative marks a decisive step towards paperless education, data-driven governance, and efficient academic services in schools.
