Mangaluru, March 17: In a significant development in a long-pending case, Mangaluru police have arrested a 36-year-old man who had been on the run for years after failing to appear before a court in connection with a 2014 case registered at Ullal police station.

The accused has been identified as Nawaz (36), a resident of Montugoli in Kairangala village.

According to police, the accused had deliberately evaded court proceedings and remained absconding despite the case being under trial. “He had failed to appear before the court and was absconding for a prolonged period,” officials said.

Acting on credible information, a team led by the Ullal police station officer, along with staff, launched an operation and successfully tracked him down and apprehended the accused.

Following his arrest, Nawaz was produced before the 7th JMFC Court, which remanded him to judicial custody until March 25.

Police stated that further legal proceedings in the case will now move forward.
