Mumbai, May 13: The city is bracing for more spells of rain as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Tuesday, cautioning residents about potential thunderstorms and rainfall. The alert, which also covers neighbouring Thane, Raigad, and Palghar districts, is valid till Wednesday.
On Monday, Mumbai recorded a maximum temperature of 34°C, while the minimum hovered around 27°C. According to IMD officials, the city may experience a slight dip in temperatures due to the rain activity expected to intensify on Tuesday.

“There is a low-level trough over the region, leading to a disruption in wind patterns. These are typical pre-monsoon developments,” said Shubhangi Bhute, director, IMD Mumbai. She added that the monsoon is likely to set in over the Andaman region by May 13 and could reach Kerala around May 28.
Meanwhile, the city breathed easier with the air quality improving significantly. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Mumbai recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 52, placing it in the 'Satisfactory' category.
Last week, IMD had continuously issued yellow alerts for four days due to unseasonal showers. Rainfall statistics show Mumbai has already surpassed the normal expected levels for this time of year. The Santacruz observatory has registered 33.9 mm of rainfall since March 1, against the seasonal average of 32.5 mm, while Colaba recorded 48.7 mm compared to its average of 46.7 mm.
As pre-monsoon activities gain momentum, Mumbaikars are advised to remain cautious and plan their travel accordingly.
