Kesari Chapter 2 crosses Rs 86.8 cr, enters IMDb top 250; Karan Johar celebrates success

Mumbai, May 12: Akshay Kumar’s latest release Kesari Chapter 2 has stormed the box office, collecting over Rs 86.8 cr in just 24 days and earning a spot in IMDb’s top 250 Indian movies list. The historical courtroom drama, produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, was released on April 18 and has been widely appreciated for its powerful storyline and performances.

Celebrating the success, Karan Johar shared a post from Dharma Productions on Instagram, featuring a striking poster of Akshay Kumar flanked by co-stars R Madhavan and Ananya Pandey. The caption read, “It wasn’t just watched…it was witnessed and rewarded with a spot in the IMDb top 250 rated Indian movies.”

Directed by Karan Malhotra, Kesari Chapter 2 follows the journey of Justice C Shankaran Nair, played by Akshay Kumar, who fights a legal battle to uncover the truth behind the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The film also features R Madhavan, Ananya Pandey, and Regina Cassandra in key roles.

At the trailer launch event in Delhi, Karan Johar described the film as more than just a tribute. “Kesari Chapter 2 is not about honour or homage. It is a demand a demand for an apology from the British Empire,” Johar said.

According to Sacnilk, the film opened at Rs 7.75 cr and closed its first week at Rs 46.1 cr. Though the second week saw a slight dip with Rs 28.65 cr, the film picked up in the following days, ending its 24-day domestic run at Rs 86.8 cr.

Following the film’s success, Karan Johar and R Madhavan are reuniting for Aap Jaisa Koi, a romantic drama centered on an unusual love story between a Sanskrit professor and a French professor. Fatima Sana Shaikh plays the female lead.
