Bengaluru, May 8: In a heartbreaking series of road tragedies on Thursday, nine people, including three minors, lost their lives in two separate accidents reported from Haveri and Bagalkot districts of Karnataka. One person remains critically injured.

In the first incident, six individuals travelling in a luxury Audi A6 car perished after their vehicle rammed into a truck near Motebennur village, under Byadagi police limits on National Highway 48. The high-speed collision left the vehicle mangled beyond recognition.

Sources in the Haveri police confirmed that the victims hailed from Haryana. One survivor has been admitted to the Haveri District Hospital in a critical condition. Byadagi police are investigating the cause of the accident, which remains unclear at this stage.

In another devastating mishap in Bagalkot district, three teenagers were killed on the spot after their bike collided with a Canter vehicle near Simikeri Bypass in Bagalkot taluk. The deceased were identified as Santhosha Kudagi, Kamanna Kupali, and Siddu Raju Gani, all 16 years old and residents of Muranala village.

The teenagers were reportedly en route to witness a DJ procession organised for Hanuman Jayanti celebrations when the fatal crash occurred. Kaladagi police have registered a case and are conducting further inquiries.

These accidents follow closely on the heels of another fatal collision that took place on Tuesday, May 6, near Kiresur Cross in Hubballi taluk of Dharwad district, where five people — including three women — died in a head-on collision between a car and a truck.

Authorities urge commuters to exercise utmost caution on highways and are intensifying checks to prevent further tragedies
