New Delhi, May 8: The Union government has convened an all-party meeting on Thursday morning to brief national political leaders on the Indian Armed Forces’ precision military operation — codenamed 'Operation Sindoor' — targeting terror infrastructure across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The high-level meeting, scheduled for 11 a.m. at Committee Room G-074 in the Parliament Library Building, was confirmed by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju in a post on X (formerly Twitter) late Wednesday evening. The operation, launched in the early hours of May 7, was India’s direct military response to the ghastly April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which left 26 civilians — including a Nepali national — dead.

Sources in the Ministry of Defence disclosed that the 25-minute-long operation began at 1.05 a.m. and concluded at 1.30 a.m., during which 24 precision-guided missiles struck nine high-value terrorist targets. Key sites included Lashkar-e-Toiba’s central command facility in Muridke and major training centres in Bahawalpur — both areas long associated with terror activity.
In its official statement, the Centre emphasized that the strikes were "measured, non-escalatory, proportionate, and responsible", with a clear objective to dismantle Pakistan-backed terror hubs while avoiding civilian casualties and refraining from targeting Pakistani military assets.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, echoing this stance, said, “Operation Sindoor was a calibrated and strategic action to pre-empt further attacks and dismantle the terror infrastructure aiding cross-border insurgency. India remains committed to peace, but not at the cost of national security.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier in the day visited Rashtrapati Bhavan to apprise President Droupadi Murmu of the military developments. Sources indicate that the President was fully briefed on the operational objectives, outcome, and future preparedness in case of retaliation from across the border.
The all-party meeting will cover key aspects of the mission — including the intelligence inputs, execution strategy, and India’s current defense posture — to ensure political unity on national security matters.
The operation has drawn bipartisan support. Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi commended the armed forces’ execution, stating on X: “Proud of our Armed Forces. Jai Hind!”
The Centre reiterated its resolve: “India has acted with utmost restraint, even as Pakistan continues to shield perpetrators of terror. Let there be no doubt — those who attack India will face the consequences.”
With regional tensions running high, the government is treading a fine line — showcasing military might while ensuring diplomatic channels remain open to avert any large-scale escalation.
