New Delhi, May 6: India has emerged as a global leader in public trust and usage of artificial intelligence (AI), with an overwhelming 76% of citizens expressing confidence in using AI technologies—far surpassing the global average of 46%, according to a new international report released on Tuesday.

The KPMG report, titled ‘Trust, Attitudes and Use of Artificial Intelligence: A Global Study 2025’, surveyed over 48,000 individuals across 47 countries. It reveals that Indians are not only more optimistic about AI's role in society but are also significantly more prepared to integrate it into both personal and professional spheres.

According to the findings, 90% of Indian respondents believe that AI has enhanced accessibility and efficiency across multiple sectors, underlining its transformative impact. In the workplace, AI adoption is particularly striking: 97% of Indian workers said they intentionally use AI in their jobs, and 67% acknowledged that they would be unable to complete their tasks without it.

These numbers stand in stark contrast to global statistics, where only 58% of workers report deliberate AI use and just 31% rely on it regularly.

The study, led by Professor Nicole Gillespie and Dr. Steve Lockey of Melbourne Business School in collaboration with KPMG, highlights India’s unique position at the forefront of AI trust and implementation.

Commenting on the report, Akhilesh Tuteja, Global Cyber Security Leader at KPMG India, said, “India is poised to lead the global charge in ethical and innovative AI deployment.” He emphasized that while public enthusiasm is high, the future success of AI hinges on robust governance and policy safeguards.

Professor Gillespie added that global adoption of AI will depend heavily on the level of public trust and the transparency of its development and use. “Trust and effective governance are essential for ensuring AI’s broad acceptance,” she said.

The report also highlights the tangible benefits of AI, with 86% of Indian respondents having personally experienced or observed improved productivity, greater innovation, and reduced time spent on repetitive tasks due to AI tools.

India also outpaces many advanced economies in AI readiness. Around 78% of respondents said they feel confident using AI, 64% have received some form of AI training, and 83% reported being effective in operating AI tools.

The study reinforces India’s reputation as not just a fast adopter of emerging technology, but also as a nation well-equipped to shape the global future of artificial intelligence.
