Mumbai, May 5: Actor Ajaz Khan has been booked for rape by the Charkop Police following a complaint from an actress who alleged that he sexually assaulted her under the false promise of marriage.

Police have registered the case under several provisions of the recently enacted Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 64, 64(2)(M), 69, and 74. Officials have confirmed that investigations are ongoing.

According to the complaint, the actress stated that Khan had offered her a role in his OTT series House Arrest and later proposed to her, promising marriage. She alleged that on March 25, he raped her at his residence, repeating the assault a few days later under the same false assurance. She also claimed that Khan told her his religion allows up to four marriages and that he would take full responsibility for her.

This isn’t the only legal trouble facing the actor. A separate FIR was previously filed against Khan at the Amboli Police Station following a complaint by the Bajrang Dal, which objected to the content of House Arrest. The OTT show, streamed on the platform Ullu, has since been removed after facing severe backlash.

In that case, Khan and others involved in the production were booked under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000, which addresses the electronic transmission of obscene content. First-time violators under this section face up to three years in prison and fines up to Rs 5 lakh, while repeat offenders may face up to five years and Rs 10 lakh in fines.

He also faces charges under Section 296 of the BNS, which penalizes obscene acts or songs in public places meant to cause annoyance, and carries up to three months’ imprisonment. Additional charges under Sections 4 and 7 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986 have been invoked—targeting the creation and distribution of content depicting women indecently. These provisions could result in jail time of up to three years for both creators and responsible company officials.

The Ullu platform’s controversial content prompted Maharashtra BJP Mahila Morcha President Chitra Wagh to publicly condemn the show as “an epitome of vulgarity,” demanding stringent action. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken note of the allegations and has summoned both Ajaz Khan and Ullu CEO Vibhu Agarwal to appear on May 9 regarding charges related to obscenity and exploitation.

Mumbai Police have assured that all parties involved, including platform executives and the actor, will be held accountable under relevant laws.
