Mangaluru, May 4: In a chilling development following the recent murder of activist and rowdy sheeter Suhas Shetty, another activist from Mangaluru has now received a direct death threat, raising alarm among the local community and intensifying concerns over the safety of right-wing leaders in coastal Karnataka.
A threatening post targeting Bharath Kummelu, a known activist, has gone viral on social media. The post explicitly states, “We will come to your place and kill you at 9:30 pm on May 5.”

The message, laced with menace, has sent shockwaves among Hindu groups and supporters.
The viral post also contains a graphic image montage—featuring a tick mark placed over Suhas Shetty’s photo, next to a photo of Bharath Kummelu, strongly implying he could be the next target. The deliberate visual threat has sparked widespread concern about a possible chain of targeted killings.
Bharath Kummelu is reportedly an accused in the murder case of SDPI leader Ashraf Kalayi, which adds further complexity to the growing communal tensions.
Sources now suggest that Bharath is not the only one under threat. At least three to five leaders, including Sharan Pumpwell, a senior activist, are believed to have received similar threats following Suhas Shetty’s murder. The threats have sparked an atmosphere of fear among activists and residents alike.
The public reaction has been swift and sharp, with calls growing louder for immediate police intervention. Citizens have demanded strict action against those responsible for spreading such threatening messages online. Many have urged the authorities to intensify surveillance on hate content circulating through social media platforms and provide security to those being targeted.
Meanwhile, in the ongoing investigation into Suhas Shetty’s murder, the police have already arrested eight individuals. However, the emergence of new threats has shifted focus to the broader question of activist safety and whether a larger plot is underway to silence voices from specific ideological backgrounds.
With communal tension simmering in the region, the police are expected to take these fresh threats seriously. An official response and possible action against those who made the viral post are likely in the coming days.
