Udupi: False report submission to court – Municipal commissioner served notice

Udupi, Mar 22: The project director of the District Urban Development Unit has issued a notice to the commissioner of the city municipality for allegedly submitting a false report regarding an illegal building constructed in the storm water drain area on converted land at Survey No. 46/77 near Badagabettu Chitpady village, which is reserved for residential purposes.

In the notice, the project director has demanded that the municipal commissioner provide clarification on the matter with appropriate documentation or face action in accordance with the CCA rule.

Meanwhile, municipality member Krishna Kodancha has taken legal action by filing a case in the high court against the illegal prayer center, which was constructed in violation of setback rules and without leaving a buffer zone. Despite a complaint being registered in the JMFC court, the municipal commissioner allegedly wrote a letter to the lawyer of the City municipality stating that no violations were found in the building. It is alleged that the municipal commissioner bypassed the city municipality's decision-making process, disregarded objections and technical reports, and favoured the building owner.

The notice was issued following a letter from MLA Yashpal Suvarna, who urged concerned officials to address the matter seriously and take stringent action against the municipal commissioner for providing false information to the court.

Furthermore, Yashpal Suvarna accused the deputy commissioner (DC) of recommending the provision of maximum grants to the building, despite numerous violations, at an estimated cost of Rs 1.74 crore.
