Brahmavar, Nov 7: Emphasising that Deepavali is not merely a festival of lighting lamps but also an occasion to bring happiness and hope into the lives of others, the Billava Yuva Vedike of Brahmavar Billava Sangha organised a special Diwali service programme titled ‘Arivina Guru – Guruvina Belaku’ at Narayana Guru Sabha Bhavan, Brahmavar, on Saturday.
The programme was organised with the objective of sharing the joy of Deepavali with economically disadvantaged families of widows, drawing inspiration from the ideals of equality, humanity and brotherhood preached by Brahmashri Narayana Guru.
As part of the initiative, selected underprivileged families were provided with essential daily-use provisions, new clothes, firecrackers and Deepavali gifts. Along with the gifts, portraits of Brahmashri Narayana Guru were also distributed, encouraging the beneficiaries to install and worship his portrait in their homes as a way of taking his teachings to every household.
Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivas Poojary, speaking on the occasion, appreciated the initiative and said that while people light lamps in their own homes, the members of the Yuva Vedike had brought the light of happiness into the lives of others.
He observed that the love, care and humanity behind the gifts were far more valuable than their material worth. He also appreciated the Billava Yuva Vedike for translating the ideals of Narayana Guru into meaningful social service rather than limiting them to words, and extended his best wishes for the initiative.
