Mangaluru: Fishermen community to continue fighting for BJP ticket

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Apr 2: “Though the fishermen of coastal region have cast 80% of votes to BJP for the past 70 years, the community has not received any political position. So we will continue our fight till a fishermen community candidate is given a ticket from Mangaluru North constituency by BJP,” said Ramachandar Baikampady, member of state special executive committee of BJP.

In a press conference that was held on Saturday, Ramachandar said, “This is an appeal by the fishermen community to national president of BJP J P Nadda and state BJP president Nalin Kumar Kateel. CM Bommai has already assured us. BJP ticket must be given to a fishermen community candidate to contest from Mangaluru North constituency. If this constituency ticket is given to our community, we will make BJP victorious in three constituencies of Dakshina Kannada district.”

Babu Bangera, Murali Raj Ucchil and Sukesh Ucchil were present.

Absolutely false to say they voted BJP for 70 years. Infact all these fisherman community were fan following of Congress and not even 5% voted for other parties. Only after Rath Yatra and there after Babri Masjid incident things started to change due to polarization of environment from Sangh Parivar. By the way there was only 2 parties earlier Congress and JP (Janata Party). There was no BJP back then. All those in BJP today were in JP. Later when Sangh formed a political outfit it was named BJP... They won elections by dividing the country based on Religion and targeted Muslims and Christians as their enemy. Without this strategy of Hindu Muslim, Pakistan and Terrorism, they can never win any election.

Ahmed, I fully agree with. It was VHP which has instigated Rath Yathra since 1990's and every year they used to have VHP rally under the leadership of Mr. Togadia, who is a very powerful speaker. What happened today is history to him. He is thrown out from VHP. Even few prominent leaders like Janardhana Poojary gave tactical support to them. Community polarised, society divided. Now most of the supporters are fed up.
