Mangaluru, Jan 30: The department of Electronics, Mangalore University, Karnataka organised a three-day workshop on ‘Ethical Hacking’ on January 27, 28 and 30, conducted by CyberSapiens, Mangaluru, which has created its own mark in the cybersecurity training space. The workshop was conducted by the security analysts of Cybersapiens, Abdul Rameez, Chirag Suvarna and Fakruddin Rahif, who demonstrated many of the state-of-the-art ethical hacking skills, under the guidance of their proprietor and the mentor Robinson D’Souza and was much appreciated by the students of MSc Cybersecurity of Mangalore University.

The workshop on ethical hacking complemented the academic programme, with the seasoned security analysts of CyberSapiens exhibiting the latest skills in the server hacking and mobile phone hacking through various attack vectors including social engineering. The students were given the ideas about the thin danger lines, which one needs to be aware of while doing the hacking ethically and avoid being picked up by police, for crossing the lines of ethics. The trainers also gave inputs on how to report the crimes to the police and government and how to become cyber-volunteers under the ministry of home affairs initiative.

Many tools which are used by the real hackers were taught to the students and how these tools can be made use of in building the cyber defense for any organisation through Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing (VAPT) and IT audit. The workshop ended with the career guidance in the field of cybersecurity, bug bounty programme to work as a cybersecurity freelancer and with the inputs on much needed industry certifications to pursue dream jobs in the field.

The MSc in cybersecurity, a two-year master degree programme is dedicated to prepare the youngsters in the field of cybersecurity, which is designed with the inputs from the industries to cater to the much needed cyber defense to the nation in the cyberspace. As the world is witnessing exponential progress in the use of digital technologies and the dangers of wrong utilisation of the same, Mangalore University, under the visionary leadership of its vice chancellor Prof P S Yadapadithaya started this flagship programme in cybersecurity in the year 2020, and is being envisioned, designed and implemented by the department of Electronics, under the guidance of its chairman Prof A M Khan. This MSc programme has been tailored and designed to suit to the demands of the ever evolving landscape of cyberspace with courses on cyber policies, frameworks, information governance, cyber laws, ethical hacking, digital forensics, block chain, cryptography, cyber threat intelligence and many more.
