Mangaluru, Jul 12: The Commission for Health of Rosario Cathedral, under the guidance of the Parish Pastoral 21 Commissions, successfully organised a Cardio Health Awareness Talk and CPR Demonstration titled "A Healthy Heart for a Blessed Life" at the Rosario Conference Hall on Sunday, 12th July 2026.
The program witnessed an encouraging response from parishioners, including youth, adults, and senior citizens, who gathered to learn about heart health and the importance of timely medical intervention during cardiac emergencies.

The keynote session was delivered by Dr Shannon Fernandes, MBBS, MD, DNB, Associate Professor, Father Muller Medical College Hospital, Mangalore. Dr. Shannon explained the causes and risk factors of heart disease, preventive measures, healthy lifestyle practices, early warning signs of heart attacks, and the importance of regular health check-ups. She encouraged participants to adopt healthy eating habits, exercise regularly, manage stress, and undergo periodic medical screenings.
A major highlight of the program was the live CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) demonstration, where Dr. Shannon Fernandes and her team demonstrated the correct technique to respond during cardiac emergencies. Participants were educated on how immediate CPR can significantly improve the chances of survival before professional medical help arrives.
The interactive session allowed parishioners to clarify their doubts regarding heart health, blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, and emergency response, making the programme highly informative and practical.
Dr Sr Saritha D’Cunha, convenor of the Commission for Health, welcomed the gathering.
Fr Valerian Fernandes led the opening prayer. Aldrin Vaz, coordinator of the parish pastoral 21 commissions, Cyril Rosario, vice president and Ida Furtado, secretary of parish pastoral council, were present on the occasion.
Sr Reshma D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks. She expressed gratitude to Dr Shannon Fernandes for sharing her valuable expertise and thanked all the parishioners for their enthusiastic participation. Doreen D’Souza compered the program.
