Konkani drama ‘Sikeram Driver’ entertains huge audience in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, Nov 26: Ardent Konkani lovers in UAE witnessed a spectacular event, the internationally acclaimed Konkani drama ‘Sikeram Driver’ staged on November 19 in the newly built school auditorium at St Joseph’s Church, Abu Dhabi. The event captured a huge set of audience with great appreciation and awe.

The event started with a brief introduction by the vibrant and long-standing KCO member Vivek Serrao, who welcomed Fr Maxim Cardoza, spiritual director of the Konkani community and parish priest of St Paul’s Catholic Church Mussafah for a prayer and blessings prior to the drama opening. Fr Maxim further expressed his pleasure to be a part of such an event that portrayed the importance of the Konkani community. Later, Vivek Serrao welcomed the current KCO president Jason Correa to the stage who rendered a warm and sincere welcome to all guests. He briefed the audience on the numerous KCO activities that took place during the pandemic era and explained the importance of how events as such brings the community closer in spirit.

The main sponsors of the event Michael D’Souza, Alwin Crasta, Leo Rodrigues - managing director at Al Mazroui and Clevy Auto Services, Benedict Pinto - managing director at Al Khalidiya Group, Clarence Cornel – director commercial at Globelink Weststar Shipping and Ronald Pinto - managing director at Hyssna International LLC Abu Dhabi were felicitated with flower bouquets by Jason Correa accompanied by honorary general secretary Anitha D’Souza. Further on the events co-sponsors, Walter Almeida - managing director at Regal Furnishing and Storage Systems, Michael Moras – managing director at Ever Easy Equipment Rental & Repairing LLC, and Valerian Dalmaida - managing director at Quick Advisory / Digital-Village TV were also felicitated with bouquets by Jason Correa accompanied by vice president Sandya Vaz.

As for the artistes, Robert Mendonca and Cleevon Mendonca as highly spirited sons surprised the audience with their inbuilt acting skills, and recognized actors Vincy Lobo, Cynthia Mendonca provided further boost in their roles to the script and drama. Comedian Sunil Suvarna got the audience laughing with his perfect sense of comedy timing and established actress Asha Correa was a delight to watch in her role. However, it was clear that the honour and profound appreciation belonged to the versatile actor Dony Correa, who directed the drama and portrayed the main character ‘Sikeram’. Dony’s outstanding dialogue delivery and competent acting captivated the hearts of the spectators. Further on, Melwin and Rohan Kalakul’s fantastic music and light management added zest to the drama. Brilliant stage setting by Sharan D’Souza and sound and light setting by Broadway Event Management also contributed hugely to the success of the drama.

All the drama artistes were felicitated by KCO advisors Leo Rodrigues, Dolphy Vas and Bennette D’Mello. The brain behind the troupe Dony Correa was honoured with flowers, shawl and a fruit basket by KCO advisors and committee members.

The KCO members with the support of its well-wishers, look forward to organise many such events in the near future, that provide not only entertainment to the families but also build in confidence of reviving in people the affinity towards Konkani culture.
