Washington, Jul 13: US Senator Mitch McConnell has disclosed that he suffered a fall at his home last month that left him briefly unconscious, ending weeks of speculation after an ambulance was called to his residence.
The 84-year-old Kentucky Republican, who previously served as the Senate Republican leader, said in a statement on Sunday that he had fallen at home on a June morning, briefly lost consciousness and was later treated for pneumonia.
McConnell's office had initially described the incident only as a "brief and sudden illness" and declined to provide further details for several weeks after the ambulance was dispatched to his home.

The disclosure came nearly a month after the medical emergency and marks the second recent incident involving a sitting US senator requiring emergency medical assistance at home.
McConnell did not provide additional details about the circumstances of the fall or the length of his hospital treatment. His office has not indicated whether the episode will affect his work schedule or Senate duties.
The veteran lawmaker, who has represented Kentucky in the Senate since 1985, has experienced several health-related incidents in recent years, including falls and public episodes in which he briefly froze while speaking at press conferences, raising concerns about his health. Despite those incidents, he has continued to serve in the Senate after stepping down from the Republican leadership earlier this year.
