In the human life cycle, we come across terms like destiny, fate, karma, etc. Do these really exist? This is one of the mysterious and unsolved questions of my life too. When I delved deeper into this, I discovered one important thing—and that really surprised me.
The concept of karma lies in every religion. What you do comes back to you. Lord Krishna, Jesus, and Allah, in their respective holy books, have all emphasized the importance of karma and the consequences of performing bad karma in one’s lifetime. Let’s not go too deep into this, as my topic is something different.
Destiny is another popular term used by both youths and adults. Whatever is happening in your life is believed to be already written by Brahma, or written on your forehead by birth—so your life is like this, and nobody can do anything about it.
I really don’t understand—if everything is already written and planned, why do we need to study, get degrees, do jobs, and strive hard for success? Let us just sit back and wait for destiny to give us what’s written, right? But we don’t do that, do we? Then why blame destiny when something doesn’t happen according to our wish or will? It’s not destiny that results in our failure or lack of success. It’s the choice we make in a particular situation that changes our entire pathway. I hope you agree. Let me give an example to help explain what I mean by “choices decide destiny.”
To pass an interview with any company, a candidate has two choices. One is to prepare well based on the job description, gain relevant skills, create a strong resume, and then give the interview and clear it. Another way is to do nothing and instead offer a lump sum amount or use influence to get the desired position in the company.
Now comes the important point—how choice can change a person’s life.
If the boss is ethical, honest, and loyal to the company, even if you offer millions of rupees, the person will not accept it. At that time, whom will we blame? Obviously, we will blame our fate—“Maybe this company is not in my child’s destiny, so even after giving so much money, my child didn’t get the job.” Am I right? This is what our elders have fed into our minds, and we are still believing that fate is already written and nobody can change it.
I don’t believe in the concepts of destiny or fate, because if we stay on the path of good karma and make honest efforts to achieve anything in life, success will come—sooner or later. Sometimes we reap the fruit of success instantly, like instant noodles. Sometimes, God makes us wait a bit longer to test our patience and see how badly we want something in our life. Because anything that is available easily and freely will lose its value soon. But the same thing, when gained after a lot of effort, prayer, and patient waiting, will have much more value in our lives. We will never let that thing go at any cost.
Choices are powerful enough to change your entire life path—for better or worse. Situations will come in everyone’s life, but the choices they make in those situations will determine what their destiny or fate will be in the future.
For those who still believe in fate and destiny, I would like to say this: sincerity, the right path, and honest efforts can change anyone’s destiny or fate. Because God also sees one’s efforts and karma, and may change their destiny accordingly.
We never know—there may be a page in our life written in pencil, so that our good karma can erase that bad fate and turn it into something good.
Always try to make the right choices, take the right path, and do good karma. Everything will eventually work in your favor, no matter what. Because karma is stronger than your fate and destiny. Your goodness can and will be the game changer of your life.
