India's internal issue not fodder for other nation's politics: Sena MP to Canada PM

Mumbai, Dec 1 (IANS): Hours after Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau raised concerns over the agitating farmers in India protesting the three farm laws passed recently, Shiv Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi said on Tuesday that she was touched by his concern but India's internal issue is not fodder for another nation's politics.

"Dear Justin Trudeau, touched by your concern but India's internal issue is not fodder for another nation's politics. Please respect the courtesies that we always extend to other nations. Request Prime Minister Narendra Modiji to resolve this impasse before other countries find it okay to opine," Chaturvedi, who is also a Rajya Sabha MP, said in a tweet.

Her remarks came after Trudeau said that he is very worried about the unfolding incident and that concerns have been relayed to the Modi government.

On the occasion of Gurpurab on Monday, Trudeau said: "The situation is very concerning. All of us are worried about family and friends, and this is a reality for many. Let me remind you. Canada will always defend the rights of peaceful protesters. We have intimated our concerns to the Indian authorities."

Farmers in India are protesting at several places on the Delhi-Haryana and Delhi-Uttar Pradesh borders over the three farm laws passed by the Parliament in September this year. The farmers have been demanding the new laws be repealed.
