Mumbai, Feb 16: A self-styled godman and two others were charged on Saturday for conning five people of Rs 20 lac on Saturday. The accused identified as Baba Kalim Shah Varshi and his accomplices Yakeen and Fazal deceived Sohel Qureshi by claiming to rid him of sufferings and promised to bring him prosperity. The guilty then went on to take money from him for various rituals, said Thane police spokesperson Sukhada Narkar.

However, it was later found that not only Qureshi was a victim to their deception but there were four others on separate occasions who were duped in a similar fashion, the police said. "The accused took Rs 11 lac cash and Rs 9 lac worth of ornaments from Qureshi and four other victims in this way. The three have been booked under the IPC and Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and Other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013," he said.

No arrests have been made in the case, the official added.
