Mumbai, Sep 15: Sacred Heart Church, Andheri, Mumbai, celebrated Monti Fest on September 13 with great enthusiasm, faith, culture and a strong sense of community spirit.

The celebration beautifully brought together parishioners of all ages, keeping alive the rich Konkani tradition and devotion to Mother Mary.

The festive eucharistic celebration began with the melodious Konkani hymn “Sakkad Sangati Mellyam,” as the parish community gathered in thanksgiving. The harvested crops were blessed, symbolising gratitude for God’s abundant blessings. The children joyfully offered flowers to Mother Mary while singing “Moriek Hogollsiya,” creating a beautiful and deeply devotional atmosphere.

The Holy Eucharist commenced with the choir singing the beautiful entrance hymn “Sobit Fulam.” Parish priest Fr John Mascarenhas led the procession carrying the statue of Mother Mary. The Holy Eucharist was presided over by the main celebrant, assistant parish priest Fr. Abraham, along with concelebrants Fr Thomas, Fr Innocent, Fr Lawrence and Fr Felix, SVD.

After the Mass, parishioners proceeded in a colourful procession to St Arnold’s AC Hall, accompanied by a brass band and the statue of “Bambino Mary”. The master of ceremonies warmly welcomed everyone gathered for the celebrations. The programme continued with a vibrant cultural programme featuring a prayer dance, beautiful Dance performance by children, a couples’ dance by the elders, group song, a comedy skit and an energetic brass-band dance performances

As a gesture of gratitude, donors and supporters who contributed towards the celebration were honoured with flowers. The priests also shared inspiring messages highlighting the importance of community service, togetherness and unity.

A special musical songs performances by Fr Richard and his group followed by lively group and duet songs presented by parishioners added joy to the celebrations. The hall echoed with Konkani conversations, laughter and warm greetings, creating a beautiful sense of belonging. Families and friends also captured many precious moments through photographs, creating lasting memories of this special celebration.

The traditional “Novem jevann” brought the celebrations to a joyful conclusion and was enjoyed by everyone. Parishioners also took sugarcane home as part of the festive tradition.

The entire celebration was a beautiful blend of faith, Konkani culture, music, tradition and fellowship. For a few precious hours, Sacred Heart Parish truly felt like a little Goa and Mangaluru in the heart of Mumbai.

The Konkani Community extends its heartfelt gratitude to Sacred Heart Parish Priest Fr John Mascarenhas, Assistant Fr Abraham, the clergy team, all the Konkani Community members, volunteers, donors and supporters, whose valuable contribution, dedication and cooperation made the Monti Fest celebration a grand success.
