Byndoor: Yakshagana artiste torches himself, succumbs to injuries

Byndoor, Jan 22: In an incident which happened at Soorakunda in Taggarse village near here, a person poured diesel on himself and ignited fire. This incident happened on the night of Sunday.

It is said that the victim of the incident, identified as Ravi (45), son of Beera Agera living near the government higher primary school. He was working as a Yakshagana artiste in Perdoor Mela and served as generator operator during the spare time.

He had arrived at Soorakunda along with the Mela artistes. Perhaps overtaken by emotions, he poured diesel on his body and torched himself. He suffered grievous injuries. Immediately he was taken to the government hospital at Ajjarkad, Udupi but he had already breathed his last on the way.

A case relating to this incident was filed in Byndoor police station.
