Mangaluru, Jul 28: The process of selecting a new president for the Dakshina Kannada district Congress committee has begun, with the party collecting opinions and suggestions from grassroots-level workers and leaders across the district.

Speaking to reporters in Mangaluru, AICC observer Jayant said the exercise is being conducted as part of the Congress party’s 'Sanghatana Srujan Abhiyan', aimed at strengthening the organisational structure of the party.

"This is not merely an exercise to find a Congress president. It is an effort to listen to the voices of party workers," Jayant said.

He stated that suggestions and opinions from party workers and leaders at various levels will be collected, and the details compiled will subsequently be submitted to the All India Congress Committee (AICC).

Jayant said the final decision on the appointment of the Dakshina Kannada district Congress president will be taken by the party high command.

He further said that the selection process would give importance to representation from all sections of society, while efforts are also being made to identify capable leaders from the grassroots level.

For the first time, the Congress has adopted a different process for selecting the district president, he said, adding that a large number of aspirants have already collected application forms for the post.

There is no specific deadline for submitting applications, Jayant clarified.

The ongoing exercise is aimed at ensuring wider participation of party workers and identifying a suitable leader who can strengthen the Congress organisation in Dakshina Kannada district.
