Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Sep 22: It is learnt that it has been decided to permit 158 persons who have already applied for undertaking sand extraction within the coastal regulatory zone limits, apart from 21 who had been involved with this activity before 2011, to extract sand.

As per the government regulations of January 14, 2019, all these 21 have chance of extracting sand along with others. "We have brought this to the notice of the deputy commissioner. The sand monitoring committee has been asked not to deny opportunities to anyone holding valid licences. Therefore I am hopeful that these 21 also will get chance to extract sand," MLA, Raghupati Bhat, said.

The work of geo fencing by fixing GPS to the docks identified to be having sand blocks in the district will be undertaken now. The sand extracted from these blocks is expected to be supplied from between Monday and Wednesday, it is learnt.
