Mangaluru, Nov 8: Barke police have received a complaint claiming that a city-based jeweller and his son have been receiving extortion calls in the name of underworld fugitive, Ravi Poojary. The police have registered the case.
Raveendra Shet, the complainant, received one such call at 5 pm on October 30. The caller expressed the desire to speak to his son, Sharath Shet. Later on, calls were received in the cellphone belonging to Sharath Shet at 3.30 pm on November 1, and 4.30 pm on November 5, the complainant sated.
During each of these calls, the jeweller's son was threatened to pay money or face adverse consequences. The person also made calls to the cell phones of all the family members of Shet as well as the land line of the jewellery firm, to repeat demand for payment of money and threatening of dire consequences.
The family is in tension now, Raveendra Shet, said in the complaint, and urged the police to take appropriate action.
